Coronavirus Guidance WEBSITE STATEMENT by Houghton Regis Helpers :- UPDATE 10 JANUARY 2021
The Government announced a National Lockdown for England on 5 January 2021 with the message to ‘Stay at Home’. The rise in Covid-19 infections, due to the new variant of the Coronavirus, is rapid and everyone is urged to be extremely careful and only leave home if absolutely necessary.
During lockdown Houghton Regis Helpers volunteers will continue to respond to requests for help with shopping, collection and delivery of prescriptions, picking up letters for posting, give advice on how to manage in the current situation and friendly chatting on the phone with residents who are self-isolating or feel lonely.
Our volunteer drivers will only provide lifts to medical appointments on essential occasions only and if there is no other means of transport available. Both volunteers and passengers must follow strict safety guidelines as laid down by our organisation and within Government regulations. Passengers must be able to get in and out of the car without assistance as there can be no physical contact and must provide their own face covering. Checks will be made prior to journeys that the resident has no Coronavirus symptoms and no-one in their household has symptoms or is in quarantine.
Volunteers are unable to DIY activities or home visits during this lockdown unless absolutely necessary for urgent or essential activities - requests will be assessed on an individual basis.
Volunteers will wear face coverings, use hand sanitiser and maintain social distancing at all times when carrying out jobs for residents.
Please keep safe and well, follow Government regulations and take care.
